Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), has announced the start of commercial operations at the Villameca Project, a 200 MWp solar photovoltaic plant located in Castilla y León, Spain.

The plant is expected to generate approximately 359,172 MWh of electricity annually. According to the company's press release, this is sufficient to power more than 100,000 homes and is projected to avoid approximately 57,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

The Villameca Project joins the 426 MWp Rey Solar Project in Andalucía and the 315 MWp Tordesillas Project in Castilla y León, which is expected to connect to the grid later in 2026. With these three projects, Recurrent Energy's total operational solar capacity in Spain is expected to reach approximately 1 GW by year-end.

Dylan Marx, CEO of Recurrent Energy, said: "The achievement of commercial operation at Villameca marks an important milestone for Recurrent Energy and strengthens our position in Europe."

During development, the project received UNEF's Seal of Excellence, which recognizes plants designed in accordance with sustainability standards. The project is expected to be hybridized with battery energy storage systems at a future date.
