October 14, 2026 8:03 AM

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ: KTOS) held a groundbreaking ceremony in Odon, Indiana, on Oct. 14, 2026, marking the start of construction on two new defense facilities at the Westgate Academy site.

The project is funded through $35 million from the Department of War's Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program, combined with cost-sharing from Kratos.

The first facility, the Indiana Radar Integration Complex (IRIC), will span approximately 183,000 square feet and is designed for the repair, testing, integration, and sustainment of the U.S. Navy's AN/SPY-1 radar system.

The second facility, the Helios Arc Jet & Laser Facility, will combine a 20–25 MW arc jet capability with a 200-kW fiber laser system. The facility is intended to provide testing infrastructure for thermal protection systems used in hypersonic vehicles, as well as directed energy technologies for air and missile defense and counter-unmanned aircraft systems.

Dave Carter, President of Kratos Defense and Rocket Support Services, said, "By bringing together advanced radar sustainment and cutting-edge hypersonic material testing under one strategic umbrella, we are addressing critical readiness bottlenecks."

Eric DeMarco, President and CEO of Kratos, said, "The new IRIC and Helios facilities are prime examples of how we approach commercial investment in national security to be first to market with proven, cost-effective capabilities."
