HII wins $56M Navy contract for AUKUS submarine design work

October 13, 2026 6:30 PM

HII (NYSE: HII) announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding division received a $56 million contract from the U.S. Navy for shipbuilding engineering and design work in support of the Australia, United Kingdom, and United States (AUKUS) partnership.

The contract includes an option that, if exercised, would bring its total value to $91 million. Work will be conducted under Foreign Military Sales requirements and will include technology insertion, engineering, supply chain support, workforce development, and digital transformation services for the United Kingdom and Australia.

The contract also covers the United States Industry Support effort, under which Newport News Shipbuilding engineers and designers will contribute to the design of the SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine, which is to be built by the United Kingdom and Australia.

"Our longstanding nuclear experience at NNS directly benefits the AUKUS mission to support shared security objectives," said Bryan Caccavale, Newport News Shipbuilding vice president of program management. "We are honored to leverage that experience and contribute even more to the AUKUS partnership."

The award follows other AUKUS-related work for HII. The company's Mission Technologies division in Australia was previously awarded the Australian Submarine Supplier Qualification Program contract, aimed at identifying and qualifying Australian suppliers for integration into the U.S. submarine industrial base. HII was also awarded the Australian Submarine Agency's Nuclear Capability Advisory Services contract in December 2025 to support Australia's nuclear-powered submarine programs through management and technical support services.
