Rambus unveils PMIC chip for LPDDR6 SOCAMM2 server memory

October 13, 2026 5:00 PM

Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS) announced a Power Management IC (PMIC) designed for LPDDR6 Small Outline Compression Attached Memory Modules (SOCAMM2), according to a company press release. The chip is currently sampling to lead customers.

The PMIC is intended to support next-generation server memory modules used in AI infrastructure. It steps down system voltage to levels required to power LPDDR6 DRAM and other active chips on the module, and includes power conversion, sequencing, telemetry and fault protection functions.

Rambus said the product was developed in technical cooperation with customers and ecosystem partners. The new PMIC, alongside the Rambus SPD Hub, extends the company's LPDDR-based module chipset roadmap from its existing LPDDR5X SOCAMM2 offering to support LPDDR6 SOCAMM2, which is described as still in development.

Rami Sethi, senior vice president and general manager of Memory Interface Chips at Rambus, said the PMIC "builds on our leadership in server-memory power management," adding that the company is working with industry partners to enable "high-performance, power-efficient memory architectures that maximize tokens per watt for AI workloads."

Micron Technology also commented on the announcement. Praveen Vaidyanathan, vice president and general manager of Cloud Memory Products at Micron, said the company "welcomes Rambus' continued investment in LPDDR6 power management solutions, which help strengthen the broader low-power memory ecosystem."

Rambus provides memory interface chipsets that include registering clock drivers, PMICs, voltage regulators, SPD Hubs and temperature sensors for DDR- and LPDDR-based memory modules.
