Uber autonomous head Maredia to depart as leadership shifts continue - Bloomberg

October 13, 2026 10:43 AM

Investing.com -- Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER) is facing another high-level departure within its self-driving unit as the ride-hailing giant works to scale its driverless strategy, according to Bloomberg. Sarfraz Maredia, a 12-year company veteran serving as global head of autonomous mobility and delivery, will step down next month to pursue a top executive role outside the transportation sector.

Maredia’s exit on Nov. 16 follows a series of leadership changes within the division this year, even as Uber commits more than $10 billion toward commercializing self-driving technology. Following his departure, senior director Samarth Kejriwal will assume oversight of driverless vehicle operations, while Aaron Emrich will continue heading autonomous delivery.

The executive shift underscores broader transition dynamics within Uber’s autonomous division following the dissolution of key partnerships with Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo and Serve Robotics Inc. Earlier departures include former head of autonomous business development Guy Peterson and top legal counsel Lando Juarez, both of whom exited for positions at emerging robotics ventures.

Despite the internal turnover, Uber continues to position its platform as an essential marketplace combining autonomous fleets with human drivers to balance daily demand fluctuations. In a farewell memo to staff, Maredia reiterated confidence in the group’s direction, emphasizing that current priorities focus on scaling driverless vehicles across international markets and deepening supply density.

Against that backdrop, Uber has simultaneously trimmed corporate overhead through broader cost-cutting initiatives designed to reallocate resources toward core mobility, delivery, and autonomous operations. Shares of Uber traded relatively flat during early Tuesday action following the report.
