Aviat Networks launches WTM 4400 microwave radio unit
Aviat Networks (NASDAQ: AVNW) announced the WTM 4400, an all-outdoor radio unit the company claims supports four independent microwave channels in a single device, with orders now being accepted and shipments scheduled to begin in early 2027.
According to a company press release, the WTM 4400 supports up to 5 Gbit/s in 4x 112 MHz channels under ETSI standards, or 3 Gbit/s in 4x 80 MHz channels under ANSI standards. The unit uses Aviat's patented Layer 1 Link Aggregation algorithm to handle traffic aggregation without external combining equipment or indoor units.
The device uses two transceivers to support four-channel aggregation through a feature Aviat calls Adaptive Dual Channel (A2C+), compared to traditional configurations that require one transceiver per channel. During signal fade events, the unit reverts to two-channel operation and applies an automatic power boost of up to 7.5 dB, returning to full capacity when conditions improve.
Aviat states the A2C+ feature provides up to 10 dB more system gain compared to alternative 4+0 solutions, which the company says allows operators to use antennas that are 50% smaller. The company also says operators can remotely enable additional channels via software to increase link capacity by up to 100% without site visits or hardware additions.

Compared to multi-unit configurations, Aviat says the WTM 4400 offers up to 50% reduction in power consumption and a higher mean time between failure rating.
"The Quad delivers higher capacity and longer links at the lowest possible total cost of ownership," said Pete Smith, CEO of Aviat Networks. "WTM 4400 is the perfect solution for operators upgrading network capacity and reducing infrastructure CAPEX and OPEX."
Aviat Networks is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
