ESA selects Planet Labs unit to build Slovenia disaster alert system
Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL) announced that its subsidiary Sinergise Solutions d.o.o. has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to build the Slovenia Space Resilience Node (SRN), a 12-month pilot project under ESA's European Resilience from Space Earth Observation program.
The project will develop a prototype that automates the connection between wide-area satellite change detection and high-resolution imaging tasking for Slovenia's Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief. Sinergise Solutions will work alongside software development company Lucis d.o.o. on the effort.
The system will autonomously analyze open Copernicus data and Planet's PlanetScope imagery. When pre-set thresholds or anomalies are detected, the system will trigger a high-resolution imaging request, including through Planet's Pelican satellite fleet. Processed imagery will then populate into emergency responders' map views within hours.

The prototype will initially focus on wildfire management across Slovenia's approximately 20,000 square kilometers, with the architecture designed to also track floods, landslides, and other environmental hazards.
"By combining open data infrastructure with high-frequency commercial imagery and tasking capabilities, we are creating a seamless, automated loop that bridges the gap between orbit and intervention," said Diego Vanelli, Director of Government Sales in EMEA at Planet.
According to the press release, Planet, through Sinergise Solutions, has collaborated with ESA for more than a decade, contributing to both the Copernicus program and ESA's Third Party Missions programme. Planet Labs GmbH, the European subsidiary based in Berlin, is the parent company of Sinergise Solutions.
