Workday expands Sana AI agent to Copilot, Slack, and Teams
Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY) announced at its Workday Rising 2026 conference in Las Vegas that Sana, its agentic orchestration engine, will operate inside third-party AI platforms including Claude, Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
Sana is designed to handle HR and finance tasks from within those platforms by checking company permissions, policies, and approvals before carrying out actions. Third-party tools access Workday data through Sana rather than directly, with all actions recorded regardless of which platform initiated them.
The integration allows a single connection to bring Workday agents — whether built by Workday, a customer, or a partner — into supported tools. When Workday adds a new capability, it becomes available across connected platforms without requiring additional configuration.
"People shouldn't have to leave a conversation to access HR or finance domain AI agents, or to get the work done," said Joel Hellermark, chief AI officer at Workday. "Wherever that conversation happens, Sana brings the same understanding of a company's people, money, and rules that it has inside Workday, and the same team of agents to act on it."

Workday said self-service capabilities with Sana are currently available in Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Teams, and Slack, with fuller agentic functionality on those platforms expected in late 2026. Sana in Claude is available today in early access, while Sana in Microsoft Copilot's fuller version is expected in early access in late 2026.
The company said Sana can also proactively identify tasks, such as flagging an unfiled expense report after a business trip, applying the relevant company policy, and preparing the report for employee review within the conversation interface.
The announcement was made at Workday Rising 2026, held October 13 in Las Vegas.
