S&P Dow Jones Indices launches joint index with HKEX
Investing.com -- S&P Dow Jones Indices launched a new index in partnership with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited on September 30, 2026. The S&P 500 & HKEX Tech 100 Index tracks the performance of major US-listed companies and the largest technology companies listed in Hong Kong.
The index allocates approximately 60% to the HKEX Tech 100 Index and 40% to the S&P 500, with quarterly rebalancing. The structure aims to provide exposure to Hong Kong's technology sector alongside US large-cap companies.
Robert Ross, Chief Commercial Officer at S&P Dow Jones Indices, said: "We are delighted to collaborate with HKEX to develop the S&P 500 & HKEX Tech 100 Index, combining Hong Kong's dynamic technology sector with leading U.S. large-cap companies in a single, transparent benchmark."
Gregory Yu, HKEX Head of Markets, said: "We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with S&P Dow Jones Indices through this new index, which combines Hong Kong's vibrant technology and innovation ecosystem with the breadth of the US large-cap market."

The index was designed to support the eligibility of ETFs tracking it for potential inclusion in Southbound Stock Connect.
The HKEX Tech 100 Index, launched in December 2025, measures the performance of 100 of the largest Hong Kong-listed companies with exposure to six technology themes: artificial intelligence, biotech and pharmaceutical, electric vehicles and smart driving, information technology, internet and robotics.
The S&P 500 includes 500 leading companies and covers approximately 85% of available US market capitalization. As of the end of 2025, approximately $23 trillion was indexed or benchmarked to the S&P 500, including roughly $16 trillion in passively managed assets.
