Murphy Oil reports drilling success in Côte d'Ivoire, Vietnam, and Gulf
Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE: MUR) announced appraisal success, an exploration discovery, and development milestones across three offshore regions, according to a company press release.
The Bubale West-1X well in Block CI-103 offshore Côte d'Ivoire was drilled to approximately 19,357 feet in 9,039 feet of water, encountering roughly 88 feet of net oil pay in the Turonian reservoir, with additional hydrocarbons in the deeper Albian reservoir. Murphy's subsidiary holds an 85% working interest in the block and operates it, with PETROCI holding the remaining 15%.
In Vietnam, Murphy achieved first oil from the Lac Da Vang field in Block 15-1/05 on September 27, 2026. Net peak production is expected to reach approximately 10–15 MBOEPD in 2028–2029 as additional wells come online. Murphy's subsidiary operates the block with a 40% working interest, alongside PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation Ltd. at 35% and SK Earthon Co. Ltd. at 25%.

Also in Block 15-1/05, the Lac Da Trang North-1X exploration well encountered 131 feet of net oil pay at a total measured depth of approximately 12,579 feet in 147 feet of water. The company and its partners will evaluate appraisal and development options, including a potential tieback to the Lac Da Vang infrastructure.
In the Gulf of America, the Chinook #8 development well in Walker Ridge Block 425 reached an initial gross production rate of approximately 15 MBOEPD, consistent with pre-drill expectations. The well produces through the Pioneer FPSO vessel in the Cascade-Chinook field. Murphy holds an 86.7% working interest, with Petrobras America Inc. holding the remaining 13.3%.
"These achievements highlight Murphy's ability to create value across exploration, appraisal and development," said Eric M. Hambly, President and Chief Executive Officer.
