Muse buys a watermelon: Inside Zuckerberg’s AI tease

October 12, 2026 11:41 AM

Investing.com -- In a seemingly casual social media post on Monday morning, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a photo of a Safeway grocery bag next to a single watermelon, accompanied by the caption: "Muse ordered me 🍉 how thoughtful!"

While it might look like a simple CEO lifestyle update, tech insiders quickly recognized the post for what it likely is: a highly coordinated product tease for Meta’s next-generation AI ecosystem. Hiding in plain sight, the post serves as a real-world demonstration of Meta’s autonomous AI ambitions and a covert nod to its highly anticipated flagship model.

The first layer of Zuckerberg’s tease highlights Meta’s push into agentic AI. By stating that "Muse" ordered the grocery delivery, Meta is publicly demonstrating the direction of its consumer-facing AI assistant—moving from a conversational chatbot toward an autonomous agent capable of executing multi-step, real-world tasks.

Muse, which officially launched in early September 2026, has been billed as an agent that works in the background to handle tasks like shopping and bookings. Having it autonomously execute a grocery delivery proves its capability to navigate real-world commerce.

The choice of fruit in the delivery bag was almost certainly not random. "Watermelon" is the widely reported internal codename for Meta’s next-generation foundational AI model.

Designed as the heavyweight successor to Meta’s current generation of models like Muse Spark, Watermelon represents a massive leap in Meta’s artificial intelligence ambitions. According to industry reports, the model utilizes significantly more compute power than its predecessor.

However, a crucial question remains: Is Watermelon actually powering Muse yet?

While Zuckerberg’s post cleverly pairs the two concepts, it remains to be seen if Watermelon is already fully integrated into Muse. The watermelon could be serving purely as a symbolic nod to the upcoming release, rather than proof that Watermelon is currently driving the grocery-shopping system.

Meta shares were 4% heading into midday.
