Cisco unveils new silicon, optics, and AI networking tools at OCP
Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) announced a series of new silicon, systems, and optical networking products at the Open Compute Project Global Summit 2026 in San Jose, Calif., on Oct. 12, 2026.
Cisco and Nvidia plan to develop an open industry specification for a new optical module called the Ultra-Dense Small Form Factor Pluggable (USFP), designed to support 400 gigabits per second per lane. The companies say USFP is expected to deliver four times the bandwidth density and 1.3 times the power efficiency of current 200Gb/s-per-lane optics. An open multi-source specification project is planned to drive broader industry adoption.
Cisco also announced that its 51.2-terabit systems, powered by the Silicon One P200 chip, are now deployed in production by hyperscale customers. Microsoft confirmed it has moved P200-powered systems into production. Alibaba Cloud said it deployed Cisco Silicon One P200-based routers at scale in its next-generation backbone network, paired with its own custom systems and the SONiC operating system.
The company introduced the Silicon One G302, a 51.2-terabit switching chip with 200G SerDes designed for top-of-rack deployments, with shipments planned before the end of 2026. The previously announced 102.4-terabit G300 chip is now available for customer sampling, with the first G300-powered systems currently shipping.

Cisco also announced the Cisco 8001, a new management system powered by Silicon One A100, available in 10G or 1G configurations and running SONiC, intended to simplify out-of-band network management at scale.
A security feature called Live Protect, which aims to reduce the window between vulnerability disclosure and patching on supported Cisco SONiC products, is planned for availability starting mid-2027.
"AI is redefining what it means to scale infrastructure," said Kevin Wollenweber, SVP and General Manager of Data Center and Internet Infrastructure at Cisco. "Cisco's strength across silicon, networking, optics, systems and security puts us in a unique position to deliver the open infrastructure customers need as AI continues to evolve."
