BYD targets 40,000 European workforce by 2030 to drive manufacturing push - report

Investing.com -- BYD Co (OTC: BYDDY) intends to dramatically expand its European presence, targeting a regional workforce of more than 40,000 employees by the end of the decade. The aggressive hiring push highlights the Chinese electric vehicle titan’s strategic transition from a direct exporter to an entrenched local manufacturer.

The Shenzhen-based automaker expects to eclipse 10,000 regional employees in the near term before quadrupling that figure by 2030, according to Executive Vice President Stella Li in an interview with Bloomberg TV. Such an expansion would position BYD among the largest non-European automotive employers operating within the continent.

To achieve those ambitious staffing targets, the company plans to recruit talent across the traditional automotive sector and adjacent industries, including absorbing talent displaced by local industry layoffs. That talent acquisition effort coincides with mounting trade headwinds as European regulatory authorities tighten oversight on Chinese vehicle imports.

The manufacturing push is gaining concrete momentum in Hungary, where BYD is finalizing preparations at its inaugural European plant ahead of commercial production targeted for the fourth quarter. The company is actively evaluating locations for subsequent regional facilities, with France and Spain currently under consideration.

The localized production strategy unfolds against an increasingly complex regulatory backdrop following recent agreement framework talks between Beijing and Brussels regarding import limits on hybrid vehicles. BYD remains in the process of evaluating the financial and operational implications of these trade restrictions while cementing its long-term industrial roots across Europe.
