Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) has received an $18.6 million sole-source award from the U.S. Army Contracting Command through the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program, bringing the company's total IBAS funding to $34 million.

The award was issued through the Office of the Secretary of War and represents the second major U.S. government investment under the IBAS program directed at Kopin's color MicroLED microdisplay technology. The funding will support development of two additional MicroLED display configurations designed for ground-soldier and pilot applications, and will support expansion of U.S.-based MicroLED manufacturing capabilities.

"Securing additional IBAS funding represents significant continued validation of Kopin's MicroLED technology and its importance to next-generation U.S. defense systems," said Michael Murray, Kopin's CEO. "This enables Kopin to accelerate the development and U.S.-based manufacturing of additional high-performance MicroLED displays designed for next-generation soldier and pilot systems."

According to the company's press release, the new displays are intended for use in ground soldier equipment, pilot heads-up displays, weapon sights, and helmet-mounted systems. The funding also supports what Kopin describes as foundational MicroLED platform technology for its AI Interconnect products.

Kopin, based in Westborough, Massachusetts, develops microdisplays and optical components for defense, medical, enterprise, and consumer markets.
