Aurora Cannabis expands Germany facility, doubling expected flower output

Aurora Cannabis Inc. (NASDAQ: ACB) has completed an expansion of its medical cannabis facility in Leuna, Germany, more than doubling the site's expected annual flower output, according to a company statement.

The facility, renamed Aurora Horizon, has received an expanded EU-GMP license for newly built areas of the site, issued by the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Health of Saxony-Anhalt. Aurora describes the site as one of only three in-country cannabis producers in Germany.

The expansion incorporated cultivation practices from Aurora's Canadian operations, including lighting, irrigation, harvesting, and post-harvest processes, as well as proprietary genetics sourced from the company's research facility, Aurora Coast, in British Columbia, Canada.

"Now known as Aurora Horizon, the EU GMP-licensed facility strengthens our ability to serve patients in Germany, while advancing our broader European growth strategy," said Alex Miller, EVP of Operations and Supply Chain at Aurora.

The company said the expanded capacity is intended to help meet demand for medical cannabis in Germany and other European markets, while also supporting job creation in the Saxony-Anhalt region. The financial cost of the expansion was described as a multi-million-dollar investment, though a specific figure was not disclosed.
