Ballard Power Systems wins 4.8MW fuel cell order for Romania
Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) announced an order for 24 FCrailâ„¢ 200 kW fuel cell modules from Siemens Mobility GmbH, totaling 4.8 MW, according to a company press release dated Oct. 6, 2026.
The modules are intended to power 12 Mireo Plus H hydrogen passenger trains for Romania's Railway Reform Authority (ARF), which would constitute Romania's first hydrogen-powered train fleet. The order also represents the largest commercial deployment of the Mireo Plus H platform to date and the first outside of Germany.
Fuel cell engine deliveries are scheduled for 2027 and 2028, with the fleet expected to enter passenger service in 2029.

The order builds on a multi-year supply commitment between Ballard and Siemens Mobility established in 2022. Earlier Mireo Plus H trains have been deployed in Germany.
"With this order, we will introduce our proven and trusted Mireo trains as well as hydrogen-powered rail transport to Eastern Europe," said Thomas Graetz, Head of Regional and Commuter Rail at Siemens Mobility.
Ballard CEO Marty Neese said the company is "proud to work side by side with Siemens Mobility to deliver the future - today."
