RBC Capital: 'we expect a slightly negative reaction today in RPM and coatings peers SHW, PPG, and AXTA'
RBC Capital analyst Arun Viswanathan reiterated an Outperform rating and $128.00 price target on RPM International (NYSE: RPM).
The analyst comments "Maintain Outperform. RPM's FQ1 EBITDA was slightly below at $405M vs our/Street $410M/$407M on solid PCG/Consumer organic growth, cost takeout, and lower healthcare expenses offsetting raws inflation and a temp slowdown in CPG. RPM's FQ1 EPS was slightly ahead at $1.98 vs RBC/Street $1.95. Overall, we expect RPM to see a slightly negative reaction today given the slightly below FQ1 EBITDA and slightly below-Street FQ2 of +lsd-msd% adj EBITDA (+3% EBITDA implies FQ2 of $287M vs $300M Street), and below-Street FY27 of +msd% adj EBITDA (+5% EBITDA at the midpoint implies FY27 of $1.295B vs $1.32B Street, vs +5-10% prior). For FQ2 , RPM expects +lsd-msd% sales but our sense is that CPG sales growth is tracking below expectations and recent raw material inflation could be pressuring margins. The company will host an Investor Day on November 9 , 2026 to update strategic priorities and outline its next operating improvement plan (i.e. MAP 3.0). RPM is now reporting segment EBITDA (in addition to EBIT) to make peer comparisons easier. Furthermore, effective 6/1/26, the company recast its financials to include certain LatAm businesses in PCG (~$143M in annual revenue), which were previously part of CPG and Consumer. Given RPM's below-Street FQ2/ FY27 and lowered FY27 guide, we expect a slightly negative reaction today in RPM and coatings peers SHW, PPG, and AXTA ."
