Cigna Healthcare unveils personalized support model Health Sense
Cigna Healthcare, the health benefits division of The Cigna Group (NYSE: CI), announced the introduction of Health Sense, a personalized customer and clinical support model designed to connect information about a person's health, care, benefits, costs and previous interactions.
According to a press release, Cigna Healthcare projects the model will reduce 10% of inefficient health care spending by 2030. The company estimates approximately one-third of health care spending is inefficient, driven by duplicative or unnecessary care, administrative complexity, poor coordination and missed opportunities.
Health Sense is embedded within the existing Cigna Healthcare customer experience rather than operating as a standalone app. It draws on clinical expertise from Cigna Healthcare physicians, nurses, pharmacists, behavioral health specialists and care management teams. The model carries context from previous interactions and is intended to help customers prepare for appointments, identify in-network providers and understand expected costs.
Cigna Healthcare plans to begin rolling out Health Sense in early 2027, initially targeting customers with oncology and cardiometabolic health needs. The company cited Evernorth Research Institute findings that progression of cardiometabolic conditions can increase total cost of care by at least 42% in one year, and that cancer diagnoses and costs are rising among working-age adults.

The company stated Health Sense does not diagnose conditions, prescribe or modify treatment, or replace a treating provider.
Research commissioned by Evernorth found that six in 10 Americans are not confident they understand all the health and wellness benefits available through their employer or health plan, and 56% said navigating care, benefits and vendor offerings is frustrating.
Bryan Holgerson, president of Cigna Healthcare U.S. and executive vice president of customer health outcomes at The Cigna Group, said the model is "designed to create a more complete view of each person's needs and circumstances, connecting people to relevant support sooner through a continuous, personalized experience."
Cigna Healthcare said it expects to expand Health Sense to additional customers, conditions and services over time as the company measures outcomes.
