Trinity Industries to fight antidumping petition on Mexico tank car imports

October 5, 2026 4:06 PM

Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE: TRN) said it will contest an antidumping and countervailing duty petition filed against its railway tank car imports from Mexico by UTLX Manufacturing LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.

UTLX filed the petition with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Trinity said it is reviewing the petition with legal and trade counsel and plans to participate in both agency proceedings.

The Dallas-based company said its Monclova, Mexico manufacturing facility has been part of its North American production network since 1998. Trinity noted it purchases American-made steel that is shipped to its Mexico facilities for use in the tank cars cited in the petition.

Trinity said it has produced more than 73,000 tank cars in the United States over the past 15 years and employs more than 2,500 U.S.-based workers across its Longview, Texas manufacturing facility and maintenance shops. The company said it serves more than 800 U.S.-based shippers.

Trinity stated it believes the facts will show its operations represent legitimate manufacturing and that the petition is not supported by evidence or law.
