Navitas and Microchip unveil 800V reference design for AI data centers

October 5, 2026 8:31 AM

Navitas Semiconductor (Nasdaq: NVTS) and Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) have jointly developed an 800V DC-to-6V DC reference design targeting AI data center rack power applications, according to a press release issued Oct. 5, 2026.

The reference platform combines Microchip's dsPIC33AK Digital Signal Controllers, TA100 CryptoAuthentication device, and Navitas' GaNFast gallium nitride power devices. The design is aligned with the Open Compute Project 800V DC standard and integrates both 800V DC-to-50V DC and 50V DC-to-6V DC conversion stages into a single converter.

The platform targets up to 96% peak efficiency at full load, operating at 1 MHz switching frequency, with a power density of 2,100 W/in³. The design uses 16 NV6034 650V GaNFast FETs in a stacked half-bridge topology on the primary side.

The dsPIC33AK256MPS306 family includes a 200 MHz 32-bit core, 78 ps high-resolution pulse width modulators, and 12-bit analog-to-digital converters operating at up to 40 MSPS. The controllers support post-quantum cryptography algorithms from the Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0.

The TA100 CryptoAuthentication device adds hardware-based security features including secure boot, message authentication code generation, trusted firmware updates, and Transport Layer Security support.

"As the ecosystem moves toward higher-voltage rack power systems, developers need proven building blocks that help reduce design risk and accelerate innovation," said Joe Thomsen, corporate vice president of Microchip's digital signal controller business unit.

The solution will be showcased at Microchip's OCP Event, scheduled for Oct. 12–15, 2026, in San Jose, California. The reference design will be made available with a reference board, software, and supporting documentation.
