Summit Therapeutics to test ivonescimab with AstraZeneca-Daiichi ADC

October 2, 2026 6:04 AM

Summit Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: SMMT) has entered a clinical trial collaboration agreement with Daiichi Sankyo (TSE: 4568) and AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN) to evaluate ivonescimab in combination with Datroway (datopotamab deruxtecan), a TROP2-directed antibody drug conjugate, across multiple solid tumor types.

The companies plan to begin with a Phase III trial in first-line triple-negative breast cancer, with intentions to expand into additional tumor settings including lung cancer. Under the agreement, each company will contribute their respective therapies and share trial costs. AstraZeneca or Daiichi Sankyo will sponsor the trials, and each company will retain independent development and commercial rights to their own medicines.

Ivonescimab is an investigational PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody engineered by Akeso Inc. (HKEX: 9926.HK) and licensed to Summit for North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Japan. The therapy is not approved by any regulatory authority in Summit's license territories. It received initial marketing authorization in China in May 2024.

Summit currently has a Biologics License Application under FDA review for ivonescimab in EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer, with a PDUFA goal date of November 14, 2026. The company also has ongoing Phase III trials in non-small cell lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and urothelial carcinoma.

Datroway was discovered by Daiichi Sankyo and is jointly developed and commercialized with AstraZeneca. It is one of seven DXd antibody drug conjugates in Daiichi Sankyo's oncology pipeline.
