BTIG survey finds GLP-1 users cut 500 calories daily from diet
Investing.com - A new survey from BTIG shows adoption of GLP-1 weight-loss medications continues to expand among lower-income and younger users, with most consumers reducing their daily caloric intake by approximately 500 calories. The firm conducted its third semiannual survey of 1,000 GLP-1 users to track demographics, usage patterns and eating habits.
The survey found 51% of GLP-1 users earn less than $50,000 annually, up from 34% in September 2025, while users under 35 years old increased to 35% from 26% over the same period. Users aged 65 and older declined to 5% from 14%. Middle-age users between 35 and 64 remained steady at 60% of respondents.
BTIG found 61% of survey respondents have insurance coverage for the medications, with higher-income users more likely to self-pay at 44% compared to 37% for lower-income users. The firm said insurance coverage appears higher than prior periods and is likely driving the broader demographic adoption.

The survey showed 36% of respondents have used GLP-1 medications for three months or less, up 11 percentage points from September 2025. Users on the medication for six months or longer decreased to 33% from 44% in the initial survey.
BTIG found GLP-1 users cut snacks, alcohol and soda most significantly from their diets. The firm said the 500-calorie daily reduction is consistent with medical experts who report patients typically eliminate about one meal per day.
