Honeywell to supply tech for Dangote's planned Kenya refinery
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has selected Honeywell Technologies (NASDAQ: HON) to provide process technologies, licensing, engineering services, proprietary catalysts, equipment and digital solutions for a planned 700,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Kenya, according to a press release from Honeywell Technologies.
The facility, once complete, is expected to be the world's largest single-train refinery. It will produce gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and polypropylene, and will have the capability to process crude oils ranging from light to heavy grades.
The project scope for Honeywell Technologies is expected to be approximately $300 million, similar to its scope at Dangote's existing refinery in Lekki, Nigeria. By drawing on engineering designs developed for the Lekki facility, Dangote expects to reduce the Kenya project's development schedule by nearly two years, or roughly 30% compared to a typical newly constructed refinery.

"Dangote is committed to expanding Africa's refining capacity and strengthening long-term energy security for the continent while also serving growing export markets," said Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. "Our proven collaboration with Honeywell Technologies will enable us to bring the facility online faster and provide the flexibility to process a broad range of crude oils."
Rajesh Gattupalli, President of Honeywell Technologies UOP, said the companies have developed proven large-train engineering designs applicable to the Kenya refinery that can help reduce time-to-market.
The two companies have collaborated for nearly a decade. Over the past year, Honeywell Technologies announced agreements to provide licensing, engineering, catalyst and digital services at the Lekki refinery, as well as support efforts to increase its refining capacity.
