TriLink wins second China patent for CleanCap mRNA technology

September 29, 2026 4:01 PM

TriLink BioTechnologies, a subsidiary of Maravai LifeSciences (NASDAQ: MRVI), has been granted a second patent in China for its CleanCap technology, according to a company statement.

The China National Intellectual Property Administration issued patent number ZL202511246658.5, titled "Compositions and Methods for Synthesizing 5'-Capped RNAs." The new patent covers the CleanCap cap analog compounds themselves, RNA molecules containing those compounds, cells with such RNA molecules, and pharmaceutical compositions that incorporate CleanCap-capped RNA.

The newly granted patent is separate from a previously announced Chinese patent, ZL202511246578.X, which covers methods of synthesizing capped RNA molecules. Together, the two patents cover both the process of making CleanCap-capped RNA and the underlying molecular structures.

"Where our first Chinese patent covers the methods of using CleanCap to produce capped RNA, this new patent covers the cap analog compounds themselves and the pharmaceutical compositions that incorporate them," said Bernd Brust, Chief Executive Officer of Maravai LifeSciences.

TriLink states it is the sole authorized manufacturer of CleanCap cap analogs. The company's CleanCap patent portfolio spans markets including the United States, the European Union, Australia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Canada, and China. The technology has been used in commercially approved COVID-19 mRNA and saRNA vaccines, as well as in drug development programs across mRNA therapeutics, cancer vaccines, and cell and gene therapies.

TriLink said it offers licensing opportunities to companies seeking to develop and commercialize mRNA-based products using CleanCap technology.
