NetApp and Oracle plan managed cloud storage service for OCI

September 29, 2026 1:33 PM

NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) and Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) announced a planned fully managed storage service that will bring NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities natively to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), according to a joint press release.

The service, called OCI NetApp Storage Service, is designed to allow enterprises to migrate and run databases, enterprise applications, virtualized environments, AI data pipelines, and other workloads on OCI while retaining familiar NetApp ONTAP storage operations. Customers would manage the service through the OCI Console, SDKs, and ONTAP APIs.

The companies said the service is intended to support data protection, migration, governance, multiprotocol access, high availability, and security across on-premises and cloud environments.

"Customers want the flexibility to move AI and enterprise workloads to the cloud without giving up operational simplicity, data management, and reliability," said Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp.

"Enterprises shouldn't have to rebuild their data infrastructure to move to the cloud," said Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

OCI NetApp Storage Service is planned for general availability within the next 12 months. Both companies noted that the announcement does not constitute a commitment to deliver any specific features, functionality, or pricing, and plans are subject to change.
