MongoDB launches version 9.0 and Atlas Infinite scaling option
MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) announced the general availability of MongoDB 9.0 and the public preview of Atlas Infinite at its Investor Day event at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City on Sept. 29, 2026.
MongoDB 9.0 is described as delivering up to 35% faster find-one queries, up to 30% faster update-one queries, up to 2x throughput on large instances, and up to 20% higher throughput for transactional workloads, compared to MongoDB 8.0. The release also expands Queryable Encryption with support for prefix, suffix, and substring searches on encrypted data, and adds Intelligent Workload Management, which the company says automatically protects database clusters during demand spikes.
Atlas Infinite, now in public preview, is a new deployment option within the MongoDB Atlas platform that separates compute from storage so each can scale independently. According to the company, it reduces time to scale by more than 96% compared to existing options. MongoDB is renaming its current Atlas offering to Atlas Core, with Atlas Infinite and Atlas Core serving as two distinct deployment options. Atlas Infinite introduces consumption-based pricing tied to actual compute and storage use rather than provisioned capacity.

Internal tests cited by the company show Atlas Infinite provides 189% more throughput per dollar than Atlas Core. Icon Solutions, a customer referenced in the announcement, reported processing up to 55% more transactions per second on Atlas Infinite with no application changes. Brazilian fintech PicPay reported sustaining four times its normal peak traffic for two hours on Atlas Infinite with zero failures.
Atlas Infinite is currently available on AWS only, with support for other cloud providers described as planned for the future. MongoDB 9.0 underpins Atlas, Enterprise Advanced, and Community Edition.
The announcements were made alongside a separately disclosed product called Atlas Agent Engine, also introduced at the same Investor Day event.
