MongoDB and Cognition launch tool to speed legacy code migration
MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) and Cognition announced the launch of Devin for MongoDB Modernizations, a product that connects Cognition's AI software engineer, Devin, to MongoDB's Application Modernization Platform (AMP) to help enterprises migrate away from legacy infrastructure.
According to a press release, Devin handles code planning and rewriting of business logic and data access layers, while AMP's tooling moves and validates data into MongoDB Atlas, the company's multi-cloud data platform. The two systems are designed to coordinate the full migration process, reducing manual handoffs between steps.
In early joint testing, tasks that previously took five to six hours were completed in just over one hour, according to the companies.
Dev Ittycheria, CEO of MongoDB, said the integration of Devin's capabilities into AMP allows more of an enterprise's application estate to be modernized at once, enabling customers to move legacy applications onto MongoDB in months rather than years.

Scott Wu, co-founder and CEO of Cognition, said Devin rewrites code across a codebase so customers can reach production on MongoDB in weeks rather than years.
Kosta Krauth, CTO of BILT, said the company used Devin to rebuild search and personalization on MongoDB, with engineering teams averaging dozens of merged pull requests per day during the final phase of the project.
Engineering teams retain control over decisions requiring human judgment, such as designing the target data model and sequencing the cutover. Devin for MongoDB Modernizations is available now to MongoDB and Cognition customers.
