MongoDB launches Atlas Agent Engine for production AI agents
MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) launched Atlas Agent Engine, a platform for deploying AI agents into production environments, at its Investor Day at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City on Sept. 29, 2026.
The product is available in public preview and is described in a company press release as a unified execution, memory, and governance layer designed to address challenges that arise when moving AI agents from proof-of-concept testing into production. These challenges include retrieval accuracy, persistent memory, and security governance.
Atlas Agent Engine uses embedding and reranking models from MongoDB Voyage AI and is built on open standards including MCP and A2A. The platform is designed to operate across AI models, frameworks, and cloud environments without requiring customers to commit to a single vendor.
Governance features are built into the platform, logging every action against a verified identity and applying policy controls. Memory and retrieval capabilities are included natively, using Voyage AI embeddings and MongoDB's retrieval infrastructure.
Pricing is consumption-based for Atlas Agent Runtime and Atlas Agent Memory, and usage draws on customers' existing Atlas commitments rather than requiring a separate contract.

MongoDB also announced it is joining the Linux Foundation's Open Secure AI Alliance and Agentic AI Foundation to support open standards for AI agent interoperability.
Paysafe SVP of Architecture Amar Akshat said the company is exploring the platform's potential to reduce response time when investigating unusual payment network activity. Accenture's Global Lead of Software Engineering Ram Ramalingam cited the partnership in a statement included in the release.
MongoDB Chief Product Officer Pablo Stern-Plaza said: "With the launch of Atlas Agent Engine, that false tradeoff ends today. Enterprises get the real-time context their agents need, with governance and security built in from the start, and the freedom to run any model, any framework, and on any cloud."
Atlas Agent Engine was announced alongside MongoDB 9.0 and Atlas Infinite at the same Investor Day event. The company states it has more than 70,000 customers.
