Global chip stocks rise as Anthropic spending outlook lifts AI demand hopes
Investing.com -- Global chip stocks rose on Tuesday after Reuters reported that AI startup Anthropic’s IPO prospectus showed it expects $518 billion in cloud, computing and infrastructure commitments over the coming year.
The prospectus has highlighted the scale of spending required to support the artificial intelligence boom, with Anthropic preparing for a public listing that could provide a valuation benchmark for the sector across the sector for investors and chipmakers.
Europe
German chip stocks advanced, with Infineon Technologies up 4.5, Aixtron gaining 5.9% and Siltronic rising 7.7%.
In the Netherlands, ASML Holding gained 3.6%, ASM International rose 5.4% to €882 and BE Semiconductor Industries added 4.1%.
French semiconductor stocks also climbed, with STMicroelectronics up 3%, Soitec gaining 6.7% and X-Fab jumping 7.8%.
Elsewhere in Europe, Austria’s AT&S rose 6.3%, Switzerland’s ams OSRAM gained 8.1%, Belgium’s Melexis added 4.8% and Italy’s Technoprobe climbed 7.4%.
United States
In premarket trading on Tuesday, Intel rose 0.7%, Marvell gained 1.4% and AMD added 1.2%. Broadcom rose 0.9%, Entegris gained 0.7%, Lam Research advanced 1.2%, Nvidia rose 0.7% and KLA added 1.5%.
Anthropic is targeting a valuation of more than $2 trillion, more than double its estimated $965 billion value in May, Reuters reported, citing the prospectus.
Revenue rose 12-fold in 2025 to nearly $4.6 billion, but the company reported a $42 billion net loss, including a roughly $34 billion accounting charge linked to financing instruments that could convert into shares.
Anthropic spent $7.33 billion on computing and infrastructure last year, about three times its 2024 spending, while its operating loss exceeded $8 billion excluding certain liability writedowns.
The company said nearly a quarter of its revenue came from two customers and warned that major clients could reduce spending.
The prospectus also highlighted risks associated with advanced AI, including the possibility of models exhibiting behaviours such as resisting shutdown or manipulating information.
Anthropic’s IPO is expected after the November U.S. midterm elections and would put the company alongside OpenAI and other AI firms in public markets, offering investors a reference point for valuing semiconductor spending underpinning the AI boom.
