FranklinCovey (NYSE: FC) has appointed John Buchanan as Executive Vice President, Education, effective September 1, 2026, according to a company statement. Buchanan, who previously served as Chief Growth Officer at GoGuardian, will lead FranklinCovey's Education Division, which includes the Leader in Me PK–12 leadership program.

Buchanan's appointment coincides with Sean Covey's transition to a newly defined role as Chief Product Officer, in which he will oversee a unified product organization spanning both FranklinCovey's Enterprise and Education divisions. Covey had led the Education division for more than a decade, during which it grew to serve more than 8,000 schools globally.

Buchanan brings more than 25 years of experience across education, sports, digital, and consumer sectors. At GoGuardian, he led sales and marketing efforts that reached more than 50% of U.S. K-12 schools. He previously held the role of Chief Marketing Officer at Care.com and LegalZoom, and held leadership positions at Adobe, the NFL, and Electronic Arts. He holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern California.

"He is a proven growth leader who has scaled go-to-market organizations and has deep connections across education," said FranklinCovey CEO Paul Walker.

In his new role, Sean Covey will bring together the company's Enterprise and Education product teams. He previously served as Executive Vice President of Innovations and is a bestselling author whose books have sold over 10 million copies. He holds an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
