FranklinCovey names new education head, shifts Sean Covey to CPO
FranklinCovey (NYSE: FC) has appointed John Buchanan as Executive Vice President, Education, effective September 1, 2026, according to a company statement. Buchanan, who previously served as Chief Growth Officer at GoGuardian, will lead FranklinCovey's Education Division, which includes the Leader in Me PK–12 leadership program.
Buchanan's appointment coincides with Sean Covey being named Chief Product Officer, a company-wide role overseeing product teams across FranklinCovey's Enterprise and Education divisions. Covey had led the Education division for more than a decade, during which the division grew to serve more than 8,000 schools globally.
Buchanan brings more than 25 years of experience across education, sports, digital, and consumer sectors. At GoGuardian, he led sales and marketing efforts that reached more than 50% of U.S. K-12 schools. He previously held chief marketing officer roles at Care.com and LegalZoom and held leadership positions at Adobe, the NFL, and Electronic Arts. He holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern California.

As Chief Product Officer, Sean Covey will consolidate FranklinCovey's Enterprise and Education product teams into a single organization. He previously served as Executive Vice President of Innovations and is the author of several books, including titles that have collectively sold over 10 million copies.
"We're thrilled to welcome John to FranklinCovey," said CEO Paul Walker. "He is a proven growth leader who has scaled go-to-market organizations and has deep connections across education."
"Our Enterprise and Education clients face many of the same challenges, and one product organization lets us bring our best work to both," said Sean Covey.
