FranklinCovey names new education head, shifts Sean Covey to CPO
FranklinCovey (NYSE: FC) has appointed John Buchanan as Executive Vice President, Education, effective September 1, 2026, according to a company statement. Buchanan, who previously served as Chief Growth Officer at GoGuardian, will lead FranklinCovey's Education Division, which includes the Leader in Me program serving more than 8,000 schools globally.
Buchanan's appointment coincides with Sean Covey being named Chief Product Officer, a company-wide role overseeing a unified product organization spanning FranklinCovey's Enterprise and Education divisions. Covey had led FranklinCovey Education for more than a decade and previously served as Executive Vice President of Innovations.
Buchanan brings more than 25 years of experience across education, sports, digital, and consumer brands. At GoGuardian, he led sales and marketing efforts that reached more than 50% of U.S. K-12 schools. He has also held senior roles at Care.com, LegalZoom, Adobe, the NFL, and Electronic Arts. He holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Southern California.

"He is a proven growth leader who has scaled go-to-market organizations and has deep connections across education," said FranklinCovey CEO Paul Walker.
In his new role, Sean Covey will oversee product development across both the Enterprise and Education divisions. "Our Enterprise and Education clients face many of the same challenges, and one product organization lets us bring our best work to both," Covey said.
