Nvidia launches open agent safety platform for AI deployment

September 28, 2026 6:03 AM

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) announced the Nvidia Open Agent Safety Platform on Sept. 28, 2026, an open software platform and reference system design aimed at strengthening AI security from agent testing through deployment.

The platform consists of two main components. Nvidia OpenShell is open source software that provides a secure runtime boundary, tracing agent actions and enforcing policy as agents run on Nvidia Vera CPUs. OpenShell can be extended to work with third-party compute platforms, including those from Arm and Intel. Nvidia Sentry is a reference system design featuring an out-of-band watchdog running on Nvidia BlueField-4 data processing units that continuously monitors agent behavior and can quarantine agents that attempt to move outside defined boundaries within milliseconds.

More than 100 organizations are working with the platform, including Anthropic, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Dell Technologies, Figure, HPE, Hugging Face, JPMorganChase, Microsoft, Palantir, Palo Alto Networks, Perplexity, Red Hat, Salesforce, SAP, Scale AI, ServiceNow and SpaceXAI.

Salesforce has integrated OpenShell with Slack, allowing teams to monitor agent activity and approve or reject agent permission requests directly within the application. SAP is embedding OpenShell into its Joule Studio runtime as part of the SAP Business AI Platform. Scale AI is incorporating the platform into the agentic infrastructure layer of its Scale GenAI Portfolio.

Robotics companies including Figure, Gecko Robotics and Skild AI are building with OpenShell to embed agent safety controls into autonomous physical systems. Financial services firms Citi and JPMorganChase are collaborating with Nvidia on shared open source agent safety technologies.

OpenShell software and related tools are available through Nvidia developer resources and GitHub. The platform also supports the Open Secure AI Alliance, which is governed by the Linux Foundation and was initiated alongside more than 120 organizations to advance AI agent security through open research and shared tools.
