Microsoft Copilot gets Home, Code, and Autopilot features
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced a redesigned version of its Copilot AI platform, introducing three new capabilities: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The announcement was made by Jared Spataro, Chief Marketing Officer of AI at Work.
Home serves as a new starting point within the Copilot app, consolidating Chat and Cowork functions in one interface. It also integrates Word, Excel, and PowerPoint directly into the experience under a feature called Office in Copilot.
Code allows users without software development backgrounds to build apps, dashboards, automations, and workflows using natural language. Microsoft says it is powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot and runs in a sandboxed environment within a company's Microsoft 365 tenant. Code will be available in preview for Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro subscribers later this year.
Autopilot, previously called Scout, is described as a persistent agent that can operate independently, managing tasks such as supplier review processes, scheduling, and stakeholder follow-ups. It is cloud-hosted and integrates with Teams, Outlook, and other Microsoft 365 surfaces. Autopilot is expanding to private preview at the end of the month.
Home and Code are set to begin rolling out through Microsoft's Frontier early-access program in the coming weeks.

Microsoft also introduced Microsoft Copilot Managed Runtime, a hosting infrastructure that allows code to run within a company's Microsoft 365 environment. It is currently in preview and is accessible to third-party and professional developers as well.
On the financial management side, Microsoft introduced FinOps for AI, a set of tools designed to help organizations monitor and manage AI-related spending. Cost management in the Agent 365 platform is expanding to include Code and Copilot Managed Runtime, with support for Copilot Studio agents planned for October.
A feature called Today, described as a personalized command center across mail, calendar, and Teams, is entering private preview in October. A shared @Copilot function for Teams is also entering private preview by the end of the month.
Microsoft said additional announcements are planned for Microsoft Ignite, scheduled for November 17–20 in San Francisco.
