Charles River sets 2030 targets, lifts 2026 earnings outlook
Charles River Laboratories International (NYSE: CRL) outlined a new strategic plan and long-term financial targets at its 2026 Investor Day on September 24, while also signaling stronger-than-expected results for the current fiscal year.
The company, based in Wilmington, Mass., introduced a strategy called "Pathway to Purpose," centered on three initiatives: modernizing operations, expanding its scientific portfolio, and enhancing client experience. Through its "Create the Future" program, Charles River expects to generate more than $300 million in cumulative savings from 2027 through 2030 via process simplification, automation, and digital tools.
The company set a 2030 target for organic revenue growth of 5% to 7% on a compound annual basis from 2027, up from current 2026 guidance of approximately 0% to 1% growth. Non-GAAP operating margin is targeted at approximately 24% by 2030, compared with a 2026 guidance range of 21.0% to 21.3%. Non-GAAP earnings per share are targeted to grow at a low-double-digit CAGR from 2027 through 2030.
Charles River also reaffirmed its 2026 financial guidance, last updated August 5, 2026, and said it now expects revenue and non-GAAP earnings per share to land at the upper ends of their prior ranges of $11.15 to $11.45 per share, citing continued demand from biopharmaceutical clients.

The company said its bioanalysis segment is expected to grow organically at a high-single-digit CAGR to approximately $450 million in revenue by 2030. Its Apollo cloud-based platform currently serves more than 18,000 client users and was recently expanded to support manufacturing solutions clients.
Chief Executive Officer Birgit Girshick said, "As innovation across drug development accelerates, we believe there are significant opportunities to leverage our scientific expertise, operational excellence, and client-centric approach to drive scalable, profitable growth."
The 2030 financial targets exclude the impact of future acquisitions or divestitures and do not constitute formal financial guidance, the company noted.
