IBM adds Swift ledger connection and on-premises option to Digital Asset Haven

September 24, 2026 6:00 AM

IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced two beta capabilities for its Digital Asset Haven platform on Sept. 24, 2026, enabling financial institutions to connect to Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger and deploy digital asset operations entirely within their own data centers.

The Swift integration, delivered through a new ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter feature, allows IBM Digital Asset Haven clients to instruct tokenized deposit transactions using standard ISO 20022 messages through Swift's shared ledger. Swift connects 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets. The shared ledger, announced at Sibos 2025 and developed with more than 40 financial institutions, moved from concept to activation in nine months. Seventeen institutions are currently piloting tokenized deposit transactions through the program.

The on-premises beta deployment option allows organizations to manage digital assets, including stablecoins and tokenized deposits, entirely within their own data centers running on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE hardware, with no dependency on public cloud infrastructure. IBM said the deployment is designed to maintain the same architecture, APIs, and workflows as its existing SaaS and hybrid deployment options.

Key features of the on-premises option include hardware-backed security using IBM Crypto Express HSMs, structured key ceremonies with auditable documentation for regulatory purposes, and support for IBM Offline Signing Orchestrator cold storage operations.

IBM launched Digital Asset Haven's SaaS and hybrid deployment options in October 2025. The company said banking and payment institutions across multiple continents have begun implementing digital asset use cases since that launch.

"As institutions modernize payments and prepare for a future of always-on transactions, they need infrastructure that combines innovation with the security, resiliency, and regulatory compliance requirements of regulated banking," said Tom McPherson, General Manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE.

According to J.P. Morgan Payments, 93% of financial institutions are currently modernizing their payments infrastructure.
