Biman Bangladesh Airlines placed an order for 11 Boeing (NYSE: BA) aircraft, including five 787-10 and six 737-8 jets, the companies announced on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The purchase is the airline's second order this year, following a deal for 14 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX airplanes announced in April. The two orders bring the airline's total order book to 25 Boeing jets.

The signing was attended by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, and several Bangladeshi government officials, including Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat.

Rumee A. Hossain, chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said the order "responds to specific requirements in our fleet plan" and is "one part of a broader, carefully considered plan to strengthen the country's international connectivity in the years ahead."

Biman currently operates 787, 777, and 737 Next-Generation aircraft on international routes connecting Bangladesh to the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe. The airline said the 737-8 will extend range on its single-aisle network, while the 787-10 will add capacity to complement its existing 787-9 and 787-8 fleet.
