Thermo Fisher launches CHO-K1 media panel for biologics developers
Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched the Gibco CHO-K1 Catalog Panel, a portfolio of basal and feed media designed to support cell growth and protein production in CHO-K1 cell lines used in biologics development.
The panel includes chemically defined, animal origin-free formulations that are cGMP-ready and available in both liquid and dry powder media formats. It is aimed at biologics and biosimilars developers seeking to evaluate and optimize CHO-K1 cell culture processes, from early development through manufacturing scale-up.
According to the company, a 14-day fed-batch study using a CHO-K1 GS cell line showed select panel combinations achieved up to 73% higher titer and up to 202% higher peak viable cell density compared with benchmark catalog media and feeds tested in the study.

"Biologics developers need flexible solutions that help them move quickly while maintaining confidence in process performance and scalability," said Alex Cherkassky, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific's cell culture business.
Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE: TMO), based in Waltham, Massachusetts, reported annual revenue of over $45 billion. The Gibco brand is one of several operated under the company's portfolio.
