September 23, 2026 7:00 AM

Travere Therapeutics (Nasdaq: TVTX) announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued a Notice of Allowance for a patent application covering certain methods of using Filspari (sparsentan) in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a rare kidney disease.

The application, U.S. Patent Application No. 19/253,120, is titled "Biphenyl Sulfonamide Compounds for the Treatment of Kidney Diseases or Disorders." If issued, the patent is expected to provide U.S. coverage for certain methods of using sparsentan in FSGS through October 2037.

The patent will formally issue after payment of the issue fee and standard USPTO post-allowance processing. Travere said it plans to submit the issued patent for listing in the FDA's Orange Book following grant.

In a separate development disclosed in the press release, the USPTO granted Travere a distinct U.S. patent in August 2026 covering certain methods of using sparsentan in IgA nephropathy (IgAN).

Filspari is currently approved in the U.S. to slow kidney function decline in adults with primary IgAN at risk for disease progression, and to reduce proteinuria in adult and pediatric patients aged 8 years and older with FSGS without nephrotic syndrome.
