Itron and Crytica Security team up on grid-edge cyber detection
Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) and Crytica Security announced a technology collaboration to integrate Crytica's Rapid Detection, Alert and Isolation technology, known as RDAiā¢, into Itron's Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio, according to a press release dated Sept. 22, 2026.
The collaboration is designed to embed continuous integrity monitoring into utility grid-edge devices, meter-hosted applications and edge workloads. Crytica's lightweight probe, under 100 kilobytes in size, monitors system integrity and detects unauthorized changes to instruction sets within seconds without affecting device performance.
The integration targets both IT and OT environments, extending cybersecurity visibility into resource-constrained field devices where traditional endpoint security tools may not function. The companies said the framework for monitoring both the meter and meter-hosted applications through a common integrity monitoring system is a capability not currently available to utilities.
Beyond cybersecurity, the collaboration is expected to generate performance-related alerts that help utilities monitor device health, reliability and availability across advanced metering infrastructure networks.

"Utilities are moving intelligence closer to the edge of the grid, and cybersecurity must move with it," said Don Reeves, Itron's senior vice president of Outcomes. "Our collaboration with Crytica builds on that foundation by adding rapid, embedded threat detection designed for the next generation of grid-edge applications."
C. Lloyd Mahaffey, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Crytica Security, said the RDAi technology was "purpose-built for demanding, resource-constrained operational environments" and that working with Itron would allow it to extend detection capabilities into utility grid-edge infrastructure at scale.
Itron is headquartered in Liberty Lake, Washington. No financial terms of the collaboration were disclosed.
