TransCode Therapeutics receives patent approvals in Australia and Japan
TransCode Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNAZ) announced that it has received patent approvals in Australia and Japan for technologies related to its RNA-based cancer therapy platform, according to a press release issued Sept. 22, 2026.
IP Australia issued a Notice of Acceptance for Patent Application No. 2019349817, titled "Compositions and Methods for Immune Checkpoint Inhibition." The application covers nanoparticle compositions that deliver small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules for cancer treatment. The allowed claims include nanoparticles with an iron oxide core, a dextran polymer coating, and a covalently linked siRNA, with methods of use across colon, lung, breast, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers. The patent is expected to be granted with an expiry date of Sept. 6, 2039.
The Japan Patent Office issued a Notice of Allowance and subsequently granted Japanese Patent No. 7886877 for Patent Application No. 2023-540752, titled "Template Directed Immunomodulation for Cancer Therapy." The patent covers RNA-based immunomodulatory compositions, including single-stranded 5′ triphosphate-modified RNA oligonucleotides designed to activate innate immune pathways within tumors. The claims also cover nanoparticle delivery systems targeting cancers that express miR-21.

"These milestones reflect the continued expansion and strengthening of our intellectual property portfolio in strategically important global markets," said Philippe P. Calais, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of TransCode Therapeutics.
The company said the patents support its broader IP portfolio, which includes its lead therapeutic candidate TTX-MC138, focused on treating metastatic tumors that overexpress microRNA-10b.
