Plug Power ships 1 MW electrolyzer to New Zealand hydrogen firm
Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ: PLUG) has shipped a 1 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer to HWR Hydrogen, a division of H.W. Richardson Group Limited, for installation at a refueling station in Invercargill, New Zealand, according to a company statement.
The electrolyzer will produce hydrogen to support HWR Hydrogen's fleet of dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel heavy trucks, as well as other customers in the Southland region. The station is also designed to refuel OEM-supplied hydrogen vehicles as they become available.
"We're looking forward to installing the Plug GenEco electrolyzer equipment, which we will use at our refueling station initially to supply hydrogen for Change Fuel Technologies built dual-fuel trucks operated by HWR and other customers across the Southland region," said Gareth Wishart, GM Technology & Innovation at HWR.

Plug says the deployment adds to its existing presence in New Zealand, where its electrolyzer technology already supports Hiringa Energy's green hydrogen refueling network. In Australia, the company was selected to supply a 50 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer system for Orica's Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub, which is expected to produce approximately 4,700 metric tons of renewable hydrogen annually.
José Luis Crespo, CEO of Plug, said the project reflects the company's position across hydrogen applications at different scales. "Plug is building a strong presence alongside this emerging market, with the technology and experience to support projects at every scale," he said.
Plug, headquartered in Slingerlands, N.Y., also operates hydrogen production facilities in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana, with a combined capacity of approximately 40 tons per day.
