FDA grants Precigen platform technology designation for AdenoVerse

September 21, 2026 7:01 AM

Precigen, Inc. (Nasdaq: PGEN) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted platform technology designation to its AdenoVerse immunotherapeutic platform, which underlies the company's commercial product PAPZIMEOS, approved by the FDA in August 2025 for the treatment of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis in adults.

To qualify for the designation, a platform must already be used in an FDA-approved product and must be demonstrated to be well characterized, reproducible, and adaptable across multiple products without compromising quality, manufacturing, or safety. The FDA determined that the AdenoVerse platform meets these criteria and is reasonably likely to generate efficiencies in development, manufacturing, and regulatory review.

The designation allows Precigen to leverage data, manufacturing knowledge, and preclinical findings generated through PAPZIMEOS when developing future AdenoVerse-based candidates, potentially reducing duplicative work. It also provides opportunities for early and more frequent engagement with the FDA during development and allows prior FDA manufacturing inspections to be considered for future applications.

Precigen said the designation is expected to benefit PRGN-2009, a candidate currently in Phase 2 studies in combination with pembrolizumab for HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer. The company also cited potential future candidates targeting additional cancers and other diseases.

"This designation will enable us to leverage prior data and engage with the FDA earlier and more frequently, creating opportunities to reduce duplicative work and bring greater speed, efficiency and predictability to the development of future AdenoVerse therapies," said Helen Sabzevari, PhD, President and CEO of Precigen.

The AdenoVerse platform is intended to address HPV-positive malignancies including head and neck, cervical, anal, vulvar, and vaginal cancers, among other potential indications.
