Microsoft, Marvell and Utimaco launch cloud payments security platform

September 17, 2026 9:00 AM

Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL), Microsoft and Utimaco announced the launch of Azure Payment HSM v2, a cloud-based payments security platform aimed at financial institutions and payment service providers, according to a press release issued Sept. 17, 2026.

The platform combines Marvell's LiquidSecurity hardware security modules, Utimaco's Atalla Payments Module software and Microsoft Azure into a managed service. It is designed to allow banks and payment processors to secure payment transactions, protect cryptographic keys and meet PCI security and compliance requirements without operating physical HSM infrastructure.

The service entered public preview on Sept. 17, 2026, and is initially available in Western U.S. and Western Europe regions.

Utimaco CEO Stefan Auerbach stated the Atalla Payments Module supports card issuance, PIN translation, mobile payments and key management, and described it as the only payment software supporting multiple hardware platforms on the market.

Soumya Subramanian, vice president of Cloud Security Engineering at Microsoft, said the offering is intended to reduce the operational burden of managing payment-specific HSMs. Cary Ussery, senior vice president at Marvell, noted the solution targets demand for cloud-scale payment services.
