Innoviz Technologies (NASDAQ: INVZ) announced that Israel's Directorate of Defense Research and Development, known as MAFAT, has recognized the company's LiDAR sensors as suitable for defense applications, according to a press release issued Sept. 17, 2026.

MAFAT, which operates under the Israel Ministry of Defense, conducted technical assessments and practical experimentation before issuing the recognition. The agency noted the maturity, robustness, scalability, and performance of Innoviz's LiDAR technology, citing its potential for use in complex operational environments. Potential applications identified include counter-drone systems, perimeter security, and critical-infrastructure protection.

The recognition does not constitute a procurement decision, contractual commitment, or guarantee of future funding, the company noted in its disclosure.

Innoviz stated it is already delivering its LiDAR technology in support of defense applications, following previously announced multi-million dollar orders from a defense customer. The company said it believes MAFAT's recognition could support potential demand from Western defense customers over time.

"We designed our LiDAR to perform in harsh real-world conditions, and we are glad to see that same proven capability recognized for its fit across a wide range of defense applications," said Omer Keilaf, founder and CEO of Innoviz.

Innoviz markets its defense-focused LiDAR products under the Perciz brand. The Tel Aviv-based company also supplies LiDAR technology to automotive manufacturers and operates across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
