Trump calls Nvidia CEO onstage to dismiss AI regulation concerns
Investing.com -- President Trump called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during a conference presentation in Los Angeles on Monday to discuss artificial intelligence and voice opposition to AI regulation proposals.
Trump interrupted Huang’s speech about artificial intelligence with a five-minute phone call that Huang put on speaker. The president dismissed concerns about AI dangers as "a hoax" and stated that "the robots are not going to be taking over the world."
The call demonstrated the president’s alignment with technology executives who argue that AI safety concerns are exaggerated and government regulation is unnecessary. This position conflicts with requests from AI companies such as Anthropic that have called for regulatory oversight. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has repeatedly warned that unchecked AI development poses genuine catastrophic risks, emphasizing that high-level models could present severe biosecurity threats or autonomous control hazards if not properly governed.
Critics and industry skeptics argue that Dario Amodei’s alarming warnings about AI existential risks are a calculated marketing tactic—or "alarm propaganda"—designed to manufacture hype and inflate Anthropic’s valuation ahead of its mega-IPO.
Following the call, Trump posted on X that people warning about AI destroying the world are "the same people that said, just a short time ago, that the World would be extinguished by ’Climate Change.’" He described such individuals as "Revolutionaries, but Revolutionaries for a Bad and Evil Cause."
In a separate post, Trump wrote: "I am the Hoax Buster, and I’m right now breaking another Hoax — That AI is going to take over, consume, and destroy the World, and that Robots will be marching into our Cities, and getting rid of us all! This is even wilder than the RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA HOAX, or the Global Warming Scam."
