Brookfield wins $1bn mandate from UK Nuclear Liabilities Fund

September 8, 2026 6:01 AM

Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM) has been selected by the Nuclear Liabilities Fund (NLF) to manage a long-term, multi-asset investment mandate with an initial commitment of $1bn (approximately £750 million), according to a press release issued Sept. 8, 2026.

The mandate will be managed by Brookfield's Investment Solutions Group, which is chaired by Oaktree Co-Chairman Howard Marks and led by Alper Daglioglu. The portfolio will invest globally across Brookfield's infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate and private credit strategies, through a combination of fund commitments, direct investments and co-investments.

The NLF, established in 1996, is an independent ring-fenced fund responsible for covering the decommissioning costs of eight nuclear power stations in the UK. The decommissioning program is expected to continue into the next century. To date, approximately £3bn in decommissioning costs have been paid.

The mandate is structured to reinvest capital over time rather than distribute proceeds routinely, aligning the portfolio's investment horizon with NLF's multi-decade funding requirements. The structure is intended to support long-term capital growth.

Melissa Hope, CEO of the Nuclear Liabilities Fund, said Brookfield was selected following a competitive process, citing "its depth of global investment capability, long-term perspective and disciplined approach to portfolio construction and governance."

Alper Daglioglu, Head of Brookfield's Investment Solutions Group, said the partnership is "built on a shared belief in long-term thinking, disciplined capital allocation and the power of compounding over decades."

Brookfield manages over $1 trillion in assets under management across infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate and credit.
