Dell’s earning report was bullish for Intel CPU demand, analyst says
Investing.com -- Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) could reach $200 per share as surging AI workloads drive what Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry estimates is 16-fold year-over-year growth in CPU demand. Chowdhry published a note arguing that Dell's most recent earnings call provides direct validation of that thesis, pointing to Dell's traditional server revenue rising 122% year-over-year as evidence of accelerating Intel CPU adoption.
Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) is the most direct equity expression of the structural shift Chowdhry describes. The firm's $200 price target and a 2031 EPS estimate of $20 rest on three interlocking arguments: rising CPU-to-GPU ratios in AI clusters, x86's entrenched enterprise position, and the architectural advantages of Intel's Clearwater Forest processor.
Dell's Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke supplied language that Chowdhry seized on. Clarke said on the earnings call that Dell is seeing "demand for new servers that have more cores" and separately described "a growing trend of customers that require meaningful CPU compute capacity to support AI and agentic workflows." Clarke also noted that traditional server revenue "was up 122% as demand remains exceptionally strong." Chowdhry's note states plainly: "This is INTC CPUs."
The demand driver, in Global Equities Research's telling, is a medium-level shift in AI training workloads. "INTC CPUs are seeing 16x y-y growth as Training shifts to Heavy Media - Video, Images and Audio from simple Text," Chowdhry wrote. Processing video, images, and audio is far more compute-intensive than training on text alone, and CPUs are bearing a growing share of that burden alongside GPUs.
The CPU-to-GPU ratio inversion underpins much of the bull case. Two generations ago, Chowdhry notes, one CPU could manage eight GPUs. Today, according to Global Equities Research, it takes two to four CPUs just to keep pace with a single GPU or TPU. That structural change alone implies a multi-fold increase in CPU unit demand per AI server rack, independent of any market-share gains Intel makes against AMD.
On the competitive landscape, Intel's Clearwater Forest leads the core-count comparison that Chowdhry lays out. Clearwater Forest offers 576 cores, versus AMD's Turin Dense at 192 cores and Nvidia's Vera Rubin at 88 cores, which began shipping in August 2026 per Global Equities Research's summary. Chowdhry frames Nvidia's Vera Rubin and Grace products as "GPU Controllers" rather than true CPU competitors, suggesting the two markets are less head-to-head than commonly assumed.
Two additional technical arguments round out the note. First, high-end GPUs are capped at 80 to 192 gigabytes of HBM DRAM memory per unit, whereas Intel x86 servers support terabytes of system DRAM, a meaningful advantage for large language model inference that cannot fit within GPU memory constraints. Second, Intel's AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions) instruction set allows x86 CPUs to run INT8, FP16, and BF16 matrix multiplication directly on-chip, enabling real-time inference on midsize LLMs ranging from 7 billion to 13 billion parameters without a discrete GPU or TPU.
Enterprise lock-in adds a defensive moat to the growth story. Global Equities Research notes that over 70% of existing enterprise data centers are built on x86 infrastructure, and that using x86 CPUs eliminates the need to rewrite software, lowering the switching cost for customers who might otherwise consider alternative architectures. That installed base gives Intel a distribution advantage that core-count comparisons alone do not capture.
"We are estimating 2031 INTC EPS to be $20," Chowdhry wrote, though the note does not disclose the P/E multiple or DCF assumptions used to bridge that figure to the $200 price target. Investors assigning their own multiple to the estimate can note that $20 EPS at a 10x multiple would imply $200, though that multiple selection is not attributed to Global Equities Research.
Looking ahead, two near-term catalysts are worth monitoring. Intel's next quarterly earnings report will be the first opportunity to see whether CPU server revenue is tracking toward the growth trajectory that Chowdhry's note implies; any further commentary on Clearwater Forest shipment volumes and data-center order backlogs will either reinforce or challenge the 16x demand thesis. Dell's next earnings call carries similar weight, given that Chowdhry used it as the primary validation event this cycle; a sustained 100%-plus growth rate in traditional server revenue would strengthen the case for Intel CPU market-share gains, while a deceleration would raise questions about whether the demand spike is structural or front-loaded.
