Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) has opened a new research and development laboratory at its Austin headquarters, funded in part through a $23 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), which was established under the Texas CHIPS Act.

The facility was officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by company leaders, employees, and representatives from the State of Texas, including officials from the Texas House Appropriations Committee and the Texas CHIPS Office within the Office of Governor Greg Abbott.

The new lab is equipped with advanced research, testing, and validation equipment and engineering workspace focused on chip design and testing. According to the company, the TSIF funding enabled Silicon Labs to upgrade equipment to work with more advanced wafer process technology nodes.

The facility is intended to support development across Silicon Labs' wireless product portfolio, including its Series 3 platform, which the company says incorporates security features, AI capabilities, and wireless connectivity for smart home, industrial, healthcare, commercial, and smart city applications.
