Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL), announced a collaboration with Midwest General Insurance Agency, LLC, a subsidiary of Acrisure, to expand its workers compensation insurance offerings in California, according to a press release.

Midwest General, also known as Illinois Midwest Insurance Agency, LLC, is a full-service managing general agency (MGA) specializing in small business workers compensation. The agency has operated in the California workers compensation market for more than 20 years and offers capabilities across marketing, underwriting, policy issuance, claims, and loss control.

"Midwest's data-driven approach to account selection aligns perfectly with Markel and our commitment to growing the book profitably," said Mike Muma, Managing Director, Workers Compensation and Small Commercial Product at Markel. "This collaboration represents a carefully considered step to expand our reach in California."

Max Carney, CEO and Founder of Midwest, said the two companies share a vision for risk selection and client service. Midwest has maintained carrier partnerships since 2005 and provides online quoting services to agency partners.
